Best sushi in the island

The foods so bad new owner but use the old website very disappointed.

Omakase was on point with every course being of the highest quality. There are usually 1-2 things on an omakase that I don't like, but NOT with this one. Every single dish was awesome. Service was knowledgeable and without pretence. Very nice overall vibe and generous pour on the sake "by the glass". We are definitely going back. Amazing.

Was highly impressed with this place. Service was excellent, the place was extremely clean, and the food was fresh and tasty. Their attention to detail in how they set the table and especially how they present each dish was of superb quality. For us it was a new restaurant that was cozy and we had the perfect meal. More over our servers strived to please. Will definitely become a regular customer and highly recommend this place. Keep up the good work Kona Kai!

I've been here three times, each time had the Omikase. Easily the best sushi I've ever had. If I had to pick between all the amazing dishes, I'd say that the oyster trio was the most interesting, diverse, and rich plates. Definitely pricey, but well worth it, in my opinion. Expect to pay about $125 per person if you make it through to the end for the Omikase.

The omakase was very good. I only made it to course number 7 but this was probably some of the best sushi I've had outside of Japan. I really enjoyed the attention to detail and flavour of the omakase. We were instructed on how to enjoy each course.

Had omakase here and the chef was really good at serving me a large variety of nigiri/sushi. The fish is really fresh and the atmosphere is nice.

Our favorite neighborhood sushi spot. Great service and high quality sushi. Highly recommend the Three Wisemen sushi (uni, ikura & mirugai) and the miso salmon scallop roll.

Great food! Great service! Would definitely go again. It was almost 8pm when we got there. Still it was a busy yet welcoming environment.

This place has the most awful service I've ever experienced, and that's definitely an understatement. We had to wait for about 10 minutes just to get water, then another 5 to get menus, and there were about 3 parties of 2-4 in the restaurant total, not even at 25% capacity. The server seemed to forget about us several times and apparently forgot to place one of our orders. After finally getting all of our food, I had to physically get up to get our servers attention to get the check. After all that, they added an item that we DID NOT ORDER and I had to fight to have them remove it from the bill. After about 3 hours of horrible service, we left feeling angry and unsatisfied.

Great sushi

Great service and the food was delish. Really glad I popped in tonight. Can't wait to come back.Used to come to the "old" Kona Kai, and though the menu has changed a bit, the fish comes from the same supplier. The appetizer and small dish menu has a nice variety. Tried several fried dishes and some sashimi, and was happy with it all.

Went for the first time yesterday. Loved it! The service was excellent the food was great and the price was very reasonable. I will definitely return with more people to eat great sushi.

We love sushi in Hawaii, because it is the freshest and most flavorful. And when we are in Honolulu, we especially love the casual vibe at Kona Kai Sushi. This is the place to relax at the sushi bar with a fine bottle of sake and some great sushi. Sometimes we order from the menu and sometimes we order the Omakase and just let the sushi chef select what's best that day (my preference). I have often seen large families here and the staff is very good at caring for a large group's needs, including small children. And of course, the sushi is outstanding!
